Kubota on Board As Ambitious Hire Business Reaches For The Stars

Stella Enterprises is expanding its fleet of Kubota gear to meet the growing demand for the high-quality machinery in its hire division.
Stella Enterprises was formed three years ago in Christchurch. It provides a large range of hire equipment to the trade industry throughout Christchurch and now Invercargill, where it opened a new branch two months ago.
Owners Trevor and Debbie Holder say the hire division is the biggest part of Stella’s business, which also offers pumps for a range of applications, traffic management services, and onsite refuelling.

The hire division supplies a full range of equipment including boom lifts, scissor lifts, compressors, excavators from 1.7 to 5 tonne, loaders, rollers, compactors and generators. It supplies Kubota B3030 tractors and Kubota U48-4, U35-4 and U17-3 excavators to large civil construction companies and to smaller owner-operator companies.
"The business is almost three years old and we’ve had Kubota from the start,” Trevor says. "The feedback we get from customers is just fantastic. We put it out to the market at the start and weighed up the various options available. Kubota came out on top as being best suited to the hire market. They’re robust and strong and comfortable too, which is key to the operators. There’s even a really good stereo in the U48 cabin models.”
Trevor says the Kubota excavators are compact and solid and are resistant to damage. "They’ve got to be easy to use and Kubota equipment stands up to the knocks really well. The 5-tonne U48-4 is quite popular for long-term hire, along with the U35-4, while the smaller diggers are in and out every day.”
Trevor worked in the pump supply and machinery industry for 20 years before establishing Stella Enterprises. He now leads a company with an expert team, an ever-expanding range of pumps and hire equipment, a large mobile re-fuelling capacity, and a commitment to meet the many demands of a region experiencing a major transformation.
Trevor has no plans to sit back and relax, however. He has huge growth plans in place for Stella Enterprises, which should see the opening of new branches throughout New Zealand within the next two years.
"Kubota is going to be our main supplier of diggers,” Trevor says. "Across the board we currently have 14 Kubota machines and we’ve just purchased another one.” He says business is going extremely well, with its long-term business plan well underway.
"The next new branch is already signed off. Our service is the main reason customers come to us, as well as our brand new products. We have quality equipment and our guys deliver everything; the customer doesn’t need to come into the branch. Our company motto is ‘service matters’.”
Stella Hire runs an efficient service department, with service managers committed to a 20-minute timeframe to reach their customers if they have a problem with any machine. They’re currently arriving onsite in an average of 12-13 minutes.
Trevor says Kubota fits extremely well within his proactive, service-focused company. "Kubota is a perfect machine for the hire game. Stella Hire is growing and we want to be on-board with stand-alone machines like Kubota for the rest of our business life.”
Kubota is imported in New Zealand by C B Norwood Distributors Ltd.
