With a 60 year history in Australia and more than 10 years as part of the New Zealand construction industry Leighton Contractors are not afraid to take on the big jobs. With having just completed the incredible Newmarket Viaduct replacement project Leighton Contractors now look to cement themselves in the Wellington region with the successful tender of both the Wellington Tunnels electrical and mechanical maintenance and the Southern Wellington road maintenance contracts.
Leighton Plant Manager for Wellington, Clayton Barnett says "from initial inquiry all the way through to delivery of the Kubota units in the middle of September, nothing was ever a problem. It was plain sailing throughout the entire process; we couldn’t have asked for anything more from Kubota New Zealand or Norwood Farm Machinery Centre, Masterton”.
Keil Davies, Central Region Territory Manager for Kubota NZ says "It has been extremely satisfying dealing with Clayton and the team. The most important part was ensuring that all Leighton’s objectives were achieved and building the foundations for a strong relationship to go well into the future”.
Leighton’s bulk purchase comprises of four 3.5 tonne excavators, one 5.5 tonne excavator, one broom tractor unit and one front end loader as well as associated augers, buckets, breakers, ramps and trailers. Clayton has been nothing but complimentary about the sales process "This is Leighton Contractors first bulk purchase of this nature; Keil and the after sales team from Norwood Farm Machinery Centre, Masterton gave us a flawless experience”.
"With an entirely new crew for this contract we needed plant that was easy to use and reliable; Kubota fits that to a T.”
"Keil came over, gave us a magnificent presentation and answered all our questions. He came prepared to discuss parts and aftersales service in depth as he knew that minimising downtime was one of the most important components to our business model” Clayton says.
Leighton’s purchase includes the new U35-4 units that have only just arrived into New Zealand. Ian Massicks, New Zealand Kubota Manager says "the new U35-4 units are an exciting upgrade to the zero tail swing model range, featuring a 5 tonne class deluxe cabin and increased overall power is the tip of the iceberg. The U35-4 is amongst five new models released this year: KX018-4, KX016-4, KX040-4 and the U48-4”.
Kubota has worked hard to carve out a reputation over the past 30 years in New Zealand. Having dealt with Kubota in the past Clayton knew that they couldn’t be overlooked in this process. "The Kubota product wasn’t the cheapest but it’s about more than that. The strong focus from Kubota on aftersales service and parts availability is what got the deal in the end. We can’t afford downtime and having parts stock available and so close to us is important”.
It was the little extras that topped off the experience for Clayton "I give them a 10 out of 10; both Keil from Kubota NZ and Norwood Farm Machinery Centre, Masterton went the extra mile for us and it showed; all the gear even arrived complete with company decals fitted which just topped off the exceptional service we have received”.
Kubota is imported in New Zealand by C B Norwood Distributors Ltd.
